Myth-busting
North Yorkshire welcomes all those living, working and studying in the county,
whatever their background. There are many reasons individuals come to live in
North Yorkshire and we hope that the information below will help to clarify the
different terms used, what they mean and what different individuals are entitled
to on arrival.

This is a guide to the differences between refugees, asylum seekers, traffiked
people, undocumented migrants, migrant workers, family migrants and international

Migrants given priority for Social Housing
The Equality and Human Rights Commission says it has found no evidence to support
claims that new migrants are getting priority over UK-born residents for social
housing. The commission says its research found that less than two per cent of
all social housing residents are people who have moved to Britain in the last
five years and that nine out of 10 people who live in social housing were born
in the UK. http://www.lgcplus.com/5003703.article
