The Sustainable Community Strategy for North Yorkshire 2008/18 sets out the NYSP's
ten-year vision for how to make North Yorkshire an even better place in which
to live, work and visit.

The Strategy was published at the end of July 2008. It focusses on ten key priorities
for achieving the ten-year vision. These are:
- Access to services and public transport
- Affordable housing
- Alcohol
- Children and young people
- Community cohesion
- Community safety
- Economy and enterprise
- Environment
- Health and wellbeing
- Older people
These priorities were decided upon following a lengthy proccess of detailed data
collection and analysis and consultation with NYSP partners between 2007 and 2008,
including drawing on the seven district-level sustainable community strategies,
the six county-wide thematic partnership plans, the evidence base for the Strategy
(also available on the NYSP website) and consultation with NYSP partners at the
annual conference in 2007.
The Strategy focusses on the high-level issues on which partners will need to
work together effectively to achieve their vision. It does not deal with specific
actions or outcomes expected. This is dealt with through the
Local Area Agreement 2008/11, which sets out specific targets for how improvements to services and quality
of life can be achieved.
