Sustainable Community Strategy and LAA Refresh 2010/11

During 2010, a period of development work will be undertaken to simultaneously refresh both the Sustainable Community Strategy 2008/18 and Local Area Agreement 2008/11.  This will ensure that their key themes and targets continue to reflect the priorities of North Yorkshire’s communities.

The Sustainable Community Strategy 2008/18 sets out the NYSP’s long-term vision for North Yorkshire , focussed around ten themes, including issues such as “community safety”, “economy and enterprise” and “older people”.  Each of these priorities links to a specific target which is deliverable through the Local Area Agreement; an agreement between local authorities and other partners and central government.

As part of the first phase of this consultation we are seeking the views of NYSP partners and other stakeholders along with residents of North Yorkshire on the following points:

a) whether the current ten priorities of the Strategy still reflect the needs of local communities;
b) whether any new priorities should be included; and
c) whether any of the current priorities should be excluded from the Strategy going forward (i.e. because they are no longer seen as critical to communities).

We will also simultaneously be asking NYSP partners to provide evidence for any new priorities to be considered and, where appropriate, to consider specific indicators which could be included in the new Local Area Agreement which will ensure that targets under each of the Strategy's priorities can be measured and monitored effectively from 2011 onwards.

This part of the refresh will end on 31st March 2010.
